sorry, i was having problems adding text last night. i am really looking at using the billboard as a parti for the project, i couldnt really develop a decent parti/idea behind the previous ideas. i took your previous comment about using the billboard as a spine and thought that might be a better way to proceed, so the billboard acts as the spine, creating a relationship (through the 'blogs' being showcased) between the school and the public as well as the hinge piece in the middle. i was looking at that as being a gathering/lounge space for the students to congregrate on the upper floors and a place to divide the circulation for the first floor. unfortunately i think there are some tweeks i might not get to in the plan, just so i can proceed with the requirements that are needed. i will post some more updates later today.
Joe, currently you are showing two bill boards with a bump at the elbow. To make your parti stronger, I would suggest combining the two billboards with a gently swooping curve instead of introducing yet another element. The billboard could have “holes” in the skin that would express the function behind. In the hallways you might have thin long openings, at the elbow/curve you might introduce larger openings that themselves become windows into the happenings inside the building (life billboards). Are the volumes on the south side (hopefully) still expressed as heavier boxes on top of a light base?
Warner, I will give the swooping curve a shot, but I do like the hinge piece in the middle, it seems to give it a sense of orginization. And yes, the original intent of keeping a very light base with heavy objects above is still going to be there - currently working on the louvers in elevation.... I will try and post a revised set of plans with the structural grid tomorrow with the elevations.... So much for sleeping.
We currently live in a 1927 Craftsman house. Recently completed a total kitchen remodel, a complete gut to the studs and build out with our own two hands.
Our family consists of three cats: Shrimpy, Cocktail and Diesel.
My fiancee, Missy, also graduated in architecture from Ohio State. She recently passed the LEED AP exam and has several active green building projects through her firm, WD Partners.
An interesting quote from Renzo Piano during an interview with Archinect: "I think it important to note the difference between style and coherence. If you're talking coherence, I love it. If you're talking about style, then I start to wonder."

Joe, you are moving your design in a new direction. I don't dislike it, but I would like to know what happens in the elbow?
